Description

The prevalance of hyperuricimea in in INDIAN population is approximately 25%.Hyperuricemia is a medical condition characterized by elevated levels of uric acid in the blood. Uric acid is a byproduct of purine metabolism, a type of protein that is found in many foods. When the body produces too much uric acid or is unable to excrete it efficiently, it can build up in the bloodstream and lead to hyperuricemia. Hyperuricemia is a risk factor for developing gout, a painful and inflammatory form of arthritis that occurs when uric acid crystals accumulate in the joints.

Gout is a chronic condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It is characterized by sudden and severe attacks of joint pain, redness, and swelling, which can last for several days. The joints most commonly affected by gout are in the big toe, but it can also occur in other joints such as the ankles, knees, elbows, and fingers. Gout attacks can be triggered by a variety of factors, including diet, alcohol consumption, obesity, and certain medications.

Hyperuricemia and gout are often managed with a combination of lifestyle modifications and medication.

Treatment options include:

Dietary changes:

  • weight loss
  • avoiding alcohol and
  • sugary drinks
  • processed foods

Early diagnosis and management can help prevent complications and improve quality of life for people living with these conditions.
